1. Hawa Mahal

Hawa Mahal (“Palace of Winds” or “Palace of the Breeze”) is a palace situated at Badi Chaupad in Jaipur, India. The palace is a five-storey pyramidal shaped monument that rises 50 feet (15 m). The top three floors of the structure have the width of a single room, while the first and second floors have patios in front of them. It has 953 windows on the outside walls. The honey comb shaped and beautifully curved windows allow breeze to blow through the palace and makes it a perfect summer palace.

The structure was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, grandson of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh ordered Lal Chand Ustad to architect of this unique structure. The best time to visit Hawa Mahal is in the early morning when the Sun enters the rooms from the windows. The Mahal is illuminated with golden sun lights.

2. Jantar Mantar

The Jantar Mantar in Jaipur consists of 19 large instruments each serving a very specific purpose. It features the world’s largest stone sundial, and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. These incredibly accurate devices were constructed by Maharaja Jai Singh II. Jantar Mantar literally means calculating instrument.

A guide is a must when you visit this place as it is very rich in science and history. There are audio guides also available which explains the significance of each structure and gives a background about astronomy.

3. City Palace Jaipur

The City Palace is located in the heart of the Pink city Jaipur. The palace was built between 1729 and 1732 AD by Sawai Jai Singh II. He was a great thinker. He along with architects Vidyadhar Bhattacharya and Shilpa Shastra made the walls of the city of Jaipur which is built on the principles of Indian science of architecture, Vastu. The architecture is a fusion of Indian, Mughal, Rajput and even European styles.

The City Palace complex is spread over a large area occupying one seventh of the old city of Jaipur. It has a sequence of gardens, buildings and courtyards, temple and museum to give it a grand view that reflects its historical importance and magnificent royal grace.

There are three main gates to the palace which are Tripolia Gate, Virendra Pol and Udai Pol. There are also four smaller gates in the third courtyard, which are Peacock (Mor), Lotus, Leheriya, Rose.

One of the famous items in the City Palace are two silver jars which have found place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest silver vessels in the world.

Today, The Chandra Mahal, Maharani Palace and the Bhaggi Khana have been converted into museums. So now there are two parts of the palace, one which is opened for the public and also has a museum, and the other for the residence of the royal family, the descendants who live here even now.

4. Central Museum (Albert Hall)

Albert Hall Museum is located in Jaipur, India. The Museum is also known as Albert Hall or Government Central Museum. It is the oldest museum in the Rajasthan, The museum gets its name from the Victoria and Albert Museum of London, because of the similarity of architecture. It is a perfect blend of Indo- Saracenic architecture.

The building of Albert Hall Museum was built in 1876 as a concert hall but was modelled out to be a museum by Madho Singh II. It was built by Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob.

5. Jal Mahal

Jal Mahal (Water Palace) situated in the middle of Lake Man Sagar. The palace and the lake around it were renovated and enlarged in the 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Amber.

Jal Mahal has been one of the most popular tourist destinations of Jaipur, what with it being the most photographed spot of the city, and romantic boating trips across the lake will give a visitor the spectacular view of Jal Mahal in all its magnificent glory.

The palace is a five-storey monument, only the top floor of Jal Mahal is accessible and visible, since the remaining four floors remain submerged under the water of Lake Man Sagar.

6. Amer Fort

Amber Fort, also known as Amer Fort is a located in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. It is an important tourist destination in this city. It is built by Maharaja Man Singh I in 1592. The fort was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2013, as part of a group of six hill forts in Rajasthan. Its architecture is a noteworthy fusion of Rajput (Hindu) and Mughal (Islamic) styles.

7. Jaigarh Fort

The magnificent Jaigarh Fort is situated on the promontory called the Cheel ka Teela (Hill of Eagles) of the Aravalli range; it overlooks the Amber Fort and the Maota Lake, near Amer in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. The fort was built by Swai Jai Singh II in 1726 to protect the Amer Fort.

Mostly known as the Fort of Victory this particular fort is constructed to store the weapons and other military utilities. During the rule of Rajputs and Mughals the desert state was a major center of artillery production. The Jaigarh fort was never conquered in battle, and was also the strongest of the three forts in Jaipur.

The main attraction of the fort is the Jaivana Cannon, one of the largest cannons in the world, weighing 50 tonnes and having a 20.19 feet barrel and 11 inch diameter. As the canon rests on four wheels instead of two, it could be turned in 360 degrees, thus making it possible to fire in all the four directions. Since, there were no bitter relations with the Mughals then and there was peace, the cannon was fired only once.

8. Nahargarh Fort

Nahargarh mean ‘abode of tigers’. The fort was originally named Sudarshangarh, but it became known as Nahargarh. Nahargarh is located along the Aravalli hills overlooking a beautiful lake. There is a food court and a restaurant at the top of the fort with an excellent view.

The fort was originally built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1734 but was turned into ruins by 1868. Nahargarh Fort was built for defense purposes but it was never attacked by enemies. The field guns stationed at the fort were never used for war but to indicate time through firing.

Madhavendra Bhavan is the most attractive part of Nahargarh fort, the summer resort of the royal family. The Wax museum and Sheesh Mahal are situated near the entrance of fort. The entrance fee for each is INR 350. Nahargarh Fort is also a popular film (Rang De Basanti, Jodha Akbar etc.) shooting location.

9. Laxmi Narayan Temple

Birla Mandir also known as Lakshmi Narayan Temple , is a Hindu temple located in Jaipur, India and is part of one of the several Birla mandirs located all around the country. The temple devoted to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.

Birla temple was built in 1988. The temple’s beauty is famous for it’s the marble architecture and modern architectural elements and statues.

Birla Mandir is considered as one of the finest temples in India. The temple is made completely of elegant white marble.

The land on which this temple stands on was given to the Birla’s by the Maharaja for a mere token of 1 rupee.

10. Sisodiya Rani Bagh

Sisodia Rani Ka Bagh (Bagh means Garden) is situated at a distance of 10 km from Jaipur city and lies on Jaipur-Agra highway.

The garden was built in 18th century (1728) by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh for his second queen Sisodia Rani, Udaipur princess. This garden was used by the queen for relaxing.

Sisodia Rani Garden is adorned with beautiful wall paintings of Radha-Krishna love story. The layout of this royal garden is a beautiful mix of traditional Indian designs and Mughal style. The place consists of tiered multi-level gardens with fountains, watercourses and painted pavilions.

The palace garden can be booked for destination weddings and other private functions.

The best time to visit Sisodia Rani Ka Bagh is in the monsoon when the peacocks are in full bloom and also in winter when the climate is pleasant. July-March is the ideal timing for visiting this garden.

11. Gaitor

Maharaja ki Chhatri, also known as Gaitor Tombs are located in the walled city area named Brahmpuri at the foothills of Nahargarh Fort on Jaipur-Amer road. Gaitor is the cremation ground of the Royal Maharajas of Rajasthan.

It is believed that the word Gaitor is the mispronunciation form of Gaye ka Thor that means the resting place of the departed souls. Royal cenotaphs are built over the cremation site. The carving on each cenotaph is a reflection of the taste of the respective Maharajas. It comprises the magnificent cenotaph of Maharaja Pratap Singh, Madho Singh II and Jai Singh II.

12. Govind Dev ji Temple

Govind Dev ji Temple is an important pilgrimage site, especially for the people who hold high regard and devotion for the Lord Krishna. The deity of the temple was brought from Vrindavan by Raja Sawai Jai Singh to prevent its destruction by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. According to a popular Hindu legend, the idol here is closest to the real appearance of Lord Krishna during his incarnation. The temple is visited by throngs of devotees every day, especially during Janmashtami and Holi.
